Saturday 21st March saw a record turnout of 929 competitors for the Spar Omagh half marathon.
Weather conditions were pretty much perfect, slightly overcast with a fresh wind blowing to help the runners
round the undulating course.
An exciting race saw Richard Turnkington (1.10.15) from Armagh AC take a close win from Pauric McKinney (1.10.23)
of Letterkenny. The two of them battled for the whole race with Turnkington taking the title with a sprint finish.
Gary Crossan (1.10.53) finished a close third.
In the womens race Maria McCambridge (1.17.02) took the title in style from the impressive over 50 vetrean
Lucy Brennan (1.22.20 ), with Karen Alexander taking (1.23.09) third place.
Pegasus had two athletes competing on the day.
Chris Denton represented the men and had a good solid run of 1.21.44 to put him in 47th place overall and
nice preparation for the forthcoming Belfast Marathon in May.
Linda Gillen ran for the ladies and had a great time of 1.44.47,
one of her fastest races so far this year! Linda is also preparing to tackle the full marathon distance in London
in April so this was a good test of how her training is coming along. Judging by her time a fast marathon is well within
her means.
Medals and t-shirts were presented to all finishers and a pile of refreshments afterwards ensured everyone
went home happy.
