Pegasus AC prepares for Springwell Forest 10km event!
Saturday 20th September at 2.00pm will see the annual Bell’s Conservatories Pegasus AC 10km forest race take place at Springwell
Forest (forest entrance on the Limavady / Coleraine line). As for the previous number of years, Bell’s of Cappagh
Conservatories have very kindly sponsored this ever popular race. Runners from
across the local area and many from other parts of NI will be in attendance on the day.
Last year saw the speedy Ballymena
Runner Neil Douglas win in a tight finish from Matt Wray (the 2006 winner) and this fight will be continued as both should
be in attendance. The women’s race saw a clearer cut victory for super
veteran Anne Paul (City of Derry AC), with Karen Alexander of Sperrin Harriers
trailing in her wake. This result could be switched around this year as Karen
has won the Riada 5 and Lurig Challenge among others in the previous couple of months.
Pegasus will have a number of runners competing on the day and should figure well throughout the field.
The race is open to EVERYONE,
so if you’re a seasoned runner or just a novice you can still run on the day.
Entries will be taken no less than 15 minutes before the race so get there early.
Tee-shirts will also be given on entry, with sandwiches and other treats on offer at the end of the race!
A short catch up on recent race results… Chris Denton ran in the Longford Marathon last month, with a very successful outing
seeing the Coleraine man finish in 10th position but more importantly achieving a new personal best of 2:53:39 as a well deserved reward for his hard work. Jason Wilson and Neil Johnston
also ran the Mizuno Mile down Stormont Drive a couple of weeks ago now, with Jason 4th (4:37) and young Neil an
excellent 6th (4:40) representing the club well. And finally the Scott
and Gault 10 mile race took place in Ballyclare last month as well, with Linda Gillen and Ralph Thom in attendance. Linda managed an 8th place finish in the women’s race in a swift 1:18:07, while Ralph
wasn’t much further back in 1:22:06 to come within 1 race of completing the NI 10 mile Grand Prix series. Congratulations to all runners!
