The last Friday in July saw the
biggest ever Riada 5 Mile Road Race take place in perfect running conditions. Very
little wind and no rain meant fast times were going to be run. In all, 185 took
part in the main race with nearly 80 in the kid’s 1km race making it a huge occasion.
Pegasus AC was out in force with a number of good performances to mention.
First Pegasus runner home was
local Bendooragh lad Jason Wilson, making his road race return after some early season injuries. A personal best of 29:32, 15th overall and 1st Under 20 runner meant it was definitely
a successful return. Next up was Ralph Thom who put in a great performance despite
being exhausted after a 10 mile road race in Portaferry on Tuesday night, sprinting home in 36:25 to come well inside the
top half of the huge field. First lady home for the club was Linda Gillen in
a speedy 37:41 to come home in 10th female overall to put in another solid run.
5 other Pegasus women also took part and included Debbie Tutty (50:24), Debbie McLaughlin (50:31), Michaela Black (50:58),
Leslie O’Neill and Sharon Williams (both 53:20) who all completed their first Riada 5.
Congratulations
to all Pegasus runners and big thanks to Ballymoney Borough Council and Springwell RC for organising another efficient race.
