Young Pegasus maestro throws up a success!

Saturday and Sunday past saw the Athletic Association of Ireland Juvenile Track and Field Championships take place at the Antrim Forum.  These championships bring together the best young athletes in Ireland to compete for the coveted title of All-Ireland Champion.  This means competition is fierce and mere centimetres / tenths of a second count for a lot.  Pegasus AC only had one young athlete in attendance but boy did he make an impact!  Andrew Richardson, a Coleraine Inst pupil took part in the Under 15 shot putt and javelin finals and was hoping for similar success as at the Ulster Age Groups.

His first event (the shot putt) gave him a very similar result to the Ulster Age Groups.  A huge personal best of 12.74m took him to within 25cm of new All Ireland Champion Jamie Devine (City of Derry AC).  The silver medal still put a smile on the young man’s face but could it be made bigger with another medal success?

The javelin saw him and 2 others in a class of their own, with Andrew almost throwing 3m further than the next boy in 4th place.  A medal was in his grasp with ANOTHER personal best of 37.04m to take the bronze this time around, behind Matthew Martin of Dromore High School but only 43cm off Daire Walsh.

Pegasus AC would like to congratulate Andrew on his success at these prestigious championships.
