Thursday 26th June
saw the annual Jude Gallagher Memorial “Round the Bridges” race take place in and around the Limavady area in
pretty mixed weather conditions. This didn’t deter 217 harder runners from
as far a field as Armagh
to give the 10 mile race a try out. The race also presented itself as the first
round of the new NI Grand Prix series which involves all 4 10 mile events across NI.
4 Pegasus runners made the starting line for the race.
Stephen (aka Frankie) O’Hara
was the first runner home from the club in 1:06:08, bettering his 10 mile personal best by 13 seconds, another fine run for
the local Coleraine man to just miss out on a top 50 placing. Next up for the
club was Linda Gillan, fighting her way to 13th female overall in a spirited 1:16:48
to cut 37 seconds off her best time from last year. Ralph Thom was the next of
the Pegasus crew home in a time of 1:20:36 to establish a new course personal best,
exactly 8 minutes up on last year. Cathy Barr ran a great race to leave her as
1st Female Veteran Over 45 (1:24:06), which meant Pegasus wasn’t
going to go home empty handed from this race!
A number of weeks earlier saw
the East Antrim Harriers Tardree Trail race take place near Ballymena. Humid
weather conditions meant the runners finishing up would be immediately reaching for the drinks bottle in desperation! Sole Pegasus runner Jason Wilson was out in his first race in a number of months due
to injury problems. Despite his lack of race fitness, he still managed to power
home 2nd Under 20 runner and 16th overall in 20:34 to start
his comeback again!
Congratulations
to all the Pegasus runners and thanks to Springwell Running Club for the efficient organisation of the race.
