Pegasus athletes were involved
in a few of races over the early Easter month which ranged from the demanding mountains in the Glens of Antrim to the long,
hard roads of Omagh. All in all, 5 runners represented the Coleraine club.
Starting with the 6 mile Glenariff
Mountain Race, Peter Bell was the sole Pegasus runner who put in a decent performance up and down the 1100ft mountain to finish
in 34th out of 67 and 4th Vet 50, despite suffering from a number of winter injuries. Jason Wilson, back from a long standing injury took part in the Irish Universities Mountain Running Championship
held in Wicklow representing the University
of Ulster. Despite his race rustiness,
18th overall out of 91, 8th university position and first Under 20 runner was consolation for a long
trip down to the ‘garden of Ireland’! The winner was Ciaran Collins (also of the University
of Ulster).
Moving onto the roads, the Spar
Omagh Half Marathon took place at the end of the month and involved 3 of our runners.
703 hardy souls lined up for the main event, which was eventually won by Brian McMahon in a blistering time of 1:08:02. First home for the club was Stephen O’Hara
(aka Frankie Dettori) in a personal best time of 1:29:19. This left him in a
creditable 82nd. Another PB fell to the ‘wee woman’ Linda
Gillen, who galloped home in a time of 1:45:02.
Tess McComb was the other finisher in 1:55:29 and 9th V40 finisher.
Well done to all
Pegasus athletes running and representing the local area well!
