Saturday 9th February
will see the 4th annual running of this quite unique race to the local area, with the bonus of officially being
the season opener in the Northern Ireland Mountain Running Grand Prix series.
This course really does provide
a bit of everything; from muddy forest tracks to steep, open mountain running. The
7.1 mile course provides about 530m of climbing with a lap of the lake at the top the half way marker. This all means top NI competitors from as far a field as Newcastle, Co. Down trying to take the spoils. NI Internationals such as Deon McNeilly, Des Woods and Gary Bailey will be up against
top orienteer competitor Alan Bogle (last years winner) for the overall title, with the women’s race looking very certain
to go to Fiona Maxwell, last year’s All-Ireland Champion and British Veteran Champion.
Pegasus will hopefully have a
number of runners competing, with Peter Bell (the current NI Mountain Grand Prix Veteran 50 Champion) hoping to get off to
a winning start in the Veteran 50s as he did last year at this race.
The race
starts at 12.00pm with registration taking place at St
Aidan’s Church from 10.30am onwards, with
the course being well marked and locals welcomed.
