Pegasus runners heat up Roe Valley
Conditions were quite chilly for the brave Pegasus members who attended the annual Roe Valley Trail Race on Saturday 4
th February. Competitors faced a tricky 4.2 mile course through the hilly Roe Valley Country Park. The first mile and a half
lured most competitors into a false sense of security, with this being mostly downhill, but that quickly changed, as the last
few miles were gradually uphill, with many competitors’ races failing at the infamous “Heartbreak Hill”
finish.
Initially, there was a junior race over one mile, in which 9 year old Stephen Park came home in 8:38, ahead of some much
older kids in his first race for Pegasus. The main race of the day contained 5 Pegasus athletes. Jason Wilson was first home,
with a credible 26:14 and 3 rd in the Under 20 Category, not bad considering he had a fall during the race. Next home was
Ivan Park in 26:57, 14 th overall in the Male Open Category, a marked improvement on last year. The ladies faired very well
too, with Judith McMullan first Pegasus lady home in 32:54 in 8 th position. Next to the fore was Lynda Gray, with a good
finish in a time of 35:01, and 3 rd Over 35 Vet. Last, but not least, was the ever improving Shirley Park, who came home in
37:17 on her first attempt at the tough race. Thanks to Springwell Running Club and to all the marshals for a well planned
race.
