Pegasus Junior Earns Northern Ireland Call Up

Pegasus AC junior Jason Wilson won his first Northern Ireland call up in the squad for the Knockdu International Mountain race on Saturday past. The 16 year old Bendooragh lad picked up his first NI vest at the annual event near Larne.

And getting the call up was just reward for his performances over the three selection races in the Mournes. Competing in the under 20 Junior category against athletes up to 3 years older than himself Jason finished 3rd, 4th and 3rd respectively. Considering he ran his first mountain race in March this is a tremendous achievement and he was looking forward to his first international, hopefully of many to come.

Unfortunately Jason picked up an injury to his foot in the final selection race and was still carrying this when he competed in the International at the weekend. But once again this promising athlete equipped himself well and, despite the reoccurrence of his injury, still managed to finish in 10th place. Jason’s next big challenge for NI honours will be in October and he will be targeting this once he gets his GCSEs out of the way. Watch this space!!
