Last Thursday saw the highly competitive Jude Gallagher Memorial 10 mile road race take place along the roads in the Limavady
area. The atrocious weather didn’t stop nearly 200 runners taking to the roads in anger, with 5 keen Pegasus AC
athletes among them.
Chris Denton was first Pegasus runner home in a rapid 13th position (59:12), an excellent performance for Pegasus’s
best marathoner. Next home of the Pegasus men was Geoff Warke, the versatile veteran coming in just over 3 minutes behind
Chris but more importantly in 2nd V50 placing. Following Geoff home was Stephen ‘Frankie’ O’Mara in
49th position and in a very acceptable time of 1:06:21. The Frankie Dettori look-alike having a good day at the office!
Last of the men was Ralph Thom in his debut over the 10 mile distance, in which he ran 1:28:35 to set up a time he’s
sure he can beat next time round!
There were 3 Pegasus women out along the river… SORRY, I mean the roads as well as our 4 men and all put in commendable
performances, particularly Cathy Barr for a very welcome win in the Vet 45 category in an impressive time of 1:19:54 to gain
a personal best and much respect at the same time! Linda Gillen managed to finish in 1:17:25 to just finish ahead of
fast flying veteran Cathy to gain 6th place in the female open category. Also running in her debut 10 mile road race
was Debbie McLaughlin, who completed the fast course in 1:33:24 to cap off a successful day for all Pegasus athletes involved.
Thanks to Springwell Running Club for another successful running of this great race.
