With the light evenings on the horizon it's time for the ladies in the local area to get out of the gym, have some fun
and burn some serious calories all at the same time!
Pegasus Athletic Club launched a programme in March 2006 that took ladies from a total beginner to running 3
miles within 8 weeks. It was originally set up to run for just 8 weeks but due to its popularity, is still going strong
with a good turnout every Tuesday. Last year many of the women that turned out to start the program were doing
so to run a leg of the Belfast Marathon Relay so if you are planning to walk/run or run in the relay this year this will set
you on the right road!
Running burns more calories than just about any other activity; approximately 100 calories per mile. So as well as losing
weight you are also improving muscle and skin tone. The "women's only" sessions will be run by Shirley Park, backed up with
training advice from the experienced Pegasus coaching set-up.
The first session on Tuesday 20th Feb is a 45 min walk/run session leaving Coleraine Leisure Centre at 6:30.
Cost is £2:00 per night and includes your programme for the week ahead. As the course is specially designed for complete beginners
the emphasis is on building fitness rather than sporting performance and no experience of running is at all necessary. Training
shoes and loose, comfortable clothing should be worn to all sessions and anyone over 16 can take part. For further details,
